A moving-boundary model of reactive settling in wastewater treatment. Part 2: Numerical scheme

چکیده

A numerical scheme is proposed for the simulation of reactive settling in sequencing batch reactors (SBRs) wastewater treatment plants. Reactive process sedimentation flocculated particles (biomass; activated sludge) consisting several material components that react with substrates dissolved fluid. An SBR operated cycles consecutive fill, react, settle, draw and idle stages, which means volume tank varies surface moves time. The modelled by a system spatially one-dimensional, nonlinear, strongly degenerate parabolic convection-diffusion-reaction equations. This coupled via conditions mass conservation to transport equations on half line whose origin located at moving boundary models effluent pipe. finite-difference proved satisfy an invariant-region property (in particular, it positivity preserving) if executed simple splitting way. Simulations are presented modified variant established sludge model no.~1 (ASM1).

Mipps: a Numerical Moving Boundary Model for Impulse Drying

A numerical moving boundary model has been developed to examine transient heat transfer and vapor-liquid displacement in impulse drying. The model, MIPPS, uses implicit, finitedifference forms of the mass, momentum, and energy conservation equations adapted for porous media. Predictions of water displacement, heat flux, and vapor pressure generation appear to be reasonable in light of available...

Coarse media filtration--an alternative to settling in wastewater treatment.

In this paper coarse media filtration has been analysed as an alternative to the traditional settling in primary, secondary and tertiary treatment of wastewater. Various filter media configurations were evaluated for enhanced primary filtration. It was found that a dual media configuration based on Kaldnes biofilm media (1 and K2modified) were most suitable when taking both separation efficienc...

A numerical treatment of a reaction-diffusion model of spatial pattern in the embryo

In this work the mathematical model of a spatial pattern in chemical and biological systems is investigated numerically. The proposed model considered as a nonlinear reaction-diffusion equation. A computational approach based on finite difference and RBF-collocation methods is conducted to solve the equation with respect to the appropriate initial and boundary conditions. The ability and robust...

Performance Evaluation of Moving Bed Bio Film Reactor in Saline Wastewater Treatment

Background and purpose:Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor is an aerobic attached growth with better biofilm thickness control, lack of plugging and lower head loss. Consequently, this system is greatly used by different wastewater treatment plants. High TDS wastewater produced petrochemical, leather tanning, sea food processing, cannery, pickling and dairy industries. The aim of this study was to evalu...
